The event sets off a year-long celebration of Harc and its support of the intellectually and developmentally disabled (I/DD) community in Greater Hartford. Throughout the year, special events and social media campaigns will celebrate Harc's work in the community and highlight its successful advocacy efforts on behalf of people with I/DD and their families.
“Harc has a solid tradition of valuing people with intellectual disabilities and their families. We are proud to recognize the significant milestones Harc has helped to pave the way in service delivery. The culture of Harc trusts families, and believes in a support system that includes and supports the family system,” said Ken Cabral, Harc President, and CEO.
Harc was founded in 1951 by the visionary parents of children I/DD who knew their children had worth and were of value to society. They became fierce advocates fighting against exclusion, isolation, discrimination, lack of opportunity, unemployment, and low expectations. Their grassroots efforts forged lasting partnerships with generous individuals, foundations, corporations, and community leaders to raise the funding and awareness necessary to create life-changing programs.
