HARTFORD, CT — A capital city area initiative aimed at training employees so in-demand industries can hire more people kicked off earlier this month.

Capital Workforce Partners Dec. 12 joined in the kick-off of the CareerConneCT program, an initiative designed to help the thousands of Connecticut residents whose jobs and lives were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic get back to work in the state’s fastest-growing industries.

Developed by Gov. Ned Lamont and the Connecticut General Assembly, CareerConneCT offers training for entry-level and middle-skill jobs in: manufacturing; health care; information technology; green jobs; infrastructure/construction; life sciences; business services; and transportation.

Connecticut’s regional Workforce Development Boards, including CWP, help businesses find qualified workers while helping workers get the skills employers need.

In its role as a WDB, CWP will play a major role in the CareerConneCT initiative by offering critical training, specifically in the areas of transportation/xommercial srivers licenses and information technology.

“We are thrilled to be part of CareerConneCT and look forward to helping north central Connecticut residents get the training they need to get back into the workforce,” said Alex Johnson, president and CEO of CWP.

“Employers across our region have made it clear that they have plenty of job openings, but not enough skilled applicants. CWP is ready to meet this moment by helping to modernize our workforce and strengthen greater Hartford’s economy.”

Connecticut residents participating in CareerConneCT training programs can earn industry-recognized credentials in as little as five to 12 weeks and get connected to employers ready to hire.

For eligible residents, all training programs are offered at no cost and provide supportive services such as childcare, transportation and technology.

Many training programs will begin in January and February of 2023 with others launching on a rolling basis.

Training programs will be provided in locations across Connecticut offering online, in-person, or combined learning opportunities.

“We encourage residents in greater Hartford and across the state to visit portal.ct.gov/careerconnect,” said Johnson. “This is the perfect opportunity to get started on gaining the skills needed for high-demand, high-quality careers such as IT and transportation.”
