HARTFORD, CT — Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam joined neighborhood residents, businesses, and community sponsors to celebrate the first "Love Your Block" party on Park Street Sunday.

Formerly known as "DominGO!," "Love Your Block" parties are built with the same mission in mind — stimulating, activating, and cultivating safe spaces and culture in our local communities.

“I’m thrilled to see so many residents, neighbors, business owners and community leaders come out to enjoy the return of our open streets,” said Hartford City Council President Shirley Surgeon. “These block parties highlight the incredible local food, arts, music, and businesses that make each of our historic neighborhoods unique and celebrate the Hartford residents that infuse our community with vibrancy.”

Love Your Block parties will continue to be held in different Hartford neighborhoods throughout the summer, with additional information to be shared by the Hartford Office of Community Engagement.

“The Love Your Block parties are another tool in Hartford’s tool belt to support our neighborhood businesses, entrepreneurs, and creatives,” said Janice Castle, director of community engagement in Hartford. “We are raising funds to support our local talents and invest in our small business owners. The key to Hartford’s success lies with our people and in supporting our neighborhoods.”

Sunday's event stretched from Prospect to Sisson avenue and featured music, food, and games all made possible by community and corporate sponsorships, such as Charter Oak Health Center.

“Charter Oak Health Center believes that healthy communities start with vibrant neighborhoods, and Love Your Block is pursuing that goal every day,” said Rick Markello, interim president and chief executive officer of Charter Oak Health Center. “We're proud to be a supporter of this initiative, which empowers Hartford residents and helps create a city where everyone thrives.”
