Hartford Grad Awarded Massive Scholarship From Amazon

He earned an Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship to study at Vanderbilt University.

HARTFORD, Conn. — A recent graduate of University High School of Science and Engineering in Hartford has been awarded an Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship worth up to $40,000 to support his studies in computer science and engineering.

Hartford resident Mojeb Rahman Zameeri was named one of 200 Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship recipients nationwide for 2026.

He is one of seven Connecticut students selected for the program this year.

The scholarship provides up to $40,000 over four years and includes an opportunity to participate in a paid Amazon internship after the recipient’s first year of college.

Zameeri plans to study computer science and electrical and computer engineering at Vanderbilt University.

“The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship means I can focus on what matters most: learning, growing, and preparing for a career in silicon design,” Zameeri said. “I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity, and being recognized by this amazing program means a lot to me as I prepare to study computer science and Engineering at Vanderbilt University this fall.”

Recipients were selected based on academic achievement, leadership, participation in school and community activities, work experience, future goals and financial need.

Amazon partnered with Scholarship America to review applications and select scholarship recipients.

“Mojeb Rahman is always looking for ways his passion can benefit the community at large,” said Sean Tomany, principal of University High School of Science and Engineering. “He and other students like him worldwide are our greatest hope for change.”

Jerome Smith, Amazon’s head of community engagement for New England and Canada, congratulated the state’s scholarship recipients.

“On behalf of Amazon's more than 15,000 employees across Connecticut, congratulations to these seven outstanding students,” Smith said. “The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship is about more than financial support — it's a vote of confidence in the next generation of innovators.”

Chris DiPentima, president and CEO of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, said programs such as Amazon Future Engineer help develop the state’s future technology workforce.

“Connecticut's economy depends on a steady pipeline of skilled technology professionals, and programs like Amazon Future Engineer are helping to build that pipeline from the ground up,” DiPentima said.

According to Amazon, the scholarship program launched in 2019 and has awarded more than $70 million to more than 1,700 students from historically underserved communities across the United States. The company said it committed up to $8 million in scholarship funding for the 2026 recipient class.

Amazon Future Engineer supports access to computer science and engineering education through scholarships, classroom programs, career exploration opportunities and educator resources.
