Hartford Heroin Trafficker Sentenced
He faces immigration proceedings when he completes his federal prison term.
HARTFORD, CT — A citizen of Colombia who last resided in Hartford was sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for trafficking heroin.
Alex Ortiz-Gomez, 35, was identified as the head of a drug trafficking organization that distributed in the Hartford area. A Wayland Street apartment was used as the base of drug operations, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office. The apartment was raided and 400 bags of heroin were seized along with packaging materials.
Ortiz-Gomez was stopped in a vehicle in New York City in May 2015 where $125,000 in cash was seized. He was arrested in June 2015. He pleaded guilty in February 2018 to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.

Ortiz-Gomez will face immigration proceedings when he completes his prison sentence. Six other individuals were convicted as part of the investigation.
