Hartford Library To Host Drag Queen Story Hour
Drag Queen Story Hour, which has proved controversial elsewhere, is one of the library's LGBTQ events for the Big Read.
HARTFORD, CT — The Hartford Public Library will host Drag Queen Story Hour Sept. 28, an event that has been the subject of protests elsewhere, The Hartford Courant reported. Drag Queen Story Hour was introduced in San Francisco in 2015 and has since become a nationwide event.
However, story hours elsewhere in cities like St. Petersburg, FL, Spokan, WA, and Chula Vista, CA have sparked protests.
Hartford Library CEO Bridget Quinn-Carey told The Courant that a few people have expressed concerns but she doesn't expect a "major response" as Hartford is "pretty open-minded."

The story hour, geared toward children ages 3 to 8, is intended to engage kids in reading while exposing them to different cultures and lifestyles, Quinn-Carey said.
