Hartford May Change Outdoor Dining Rules

When restaurants reopen for outdoor dining, the city will look at changing zoning regulations to allow for expanded seating.

HARTFORD, CT — With restaurants set to reopen for outdoor dining later this month, the city is looking at changing zoning regulations to allow for more seating and allowing changing parking lots into seating, according to the Hartford Business Journal. A city official said any changes to regulations will be cognizant of the size of the outdoor area and the potential impact on surrounding neighborhoods.

The goal of the changes would be to provide flexibility for restaurants, which have been hard hit since the state's shutdown in March, the Hartford Business Journal reported.

Current restrictions—which only allow for takeout or delivery—are set to ease on May 20, when restaurants will be allowed to serve customers outdoors as long as they meet social distancing requirements.
