Hartford PD Turns Down Offer to Appear on "Cops"
The long-running television series offered a feature spot to the Hartford Police Department.

HARTFORD, CT — "Bad Boys" has been the theme song for the television series Cops for the past three decades, but despite a recent offer, viewers will not be hearing the reggae tune accompanied by video footage of Hartford police officers.
The Hartford Police Department was approached by the Spike TV show's producers about featuring its officers during this 30th anniversary season, but the offer was politely declined.
Deputy Chief Brian Foley posted the offer letter on Twitter, and added some comments.

We are honored & thankful to have the offer. But it's just not something we are interested in doing. pic.twitter.com/90CopRMRqH

"We are honored & thankful to have the offer. But it's just not something we are interested in doing," Foley wrote. "It can be disrespectful to our citizens in genuine crisis. It'll broadcast them nationally at their saddest and worse moments in life."
The show has followed law enforcement officers in 140 different cities in the United States, as well as several foreign countries.
