Hartford Police Sergeant Passes Away Unexpectedly

He had a 35-year career in law enforcement, including the last 14 years in Hartford.

HARTFORD, CT — Members of the Hartford Police Department are mourning the sudden passing of one of its own, as Sgt. Liam Pesce, 60, died unexpectedly Thursday at Waterbury Hospital.

"It is with great sadness that we must inform you of the sudden passing of Sergeant Liam Pesce last night," Deputy Chief Brian Foley said in a statement Friday. "Liam was a respected and valued member of our Hartford Police Department family since 2004. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2012. His friendly demeanor and professionalism will be missed by all."

Hartford officers will be wearing mourning bands over their badges in honor of Pesce, Foley said.

Pesce, who resided in the Northfield section of Litchfield, came to Hartford after a 21-year stint with the Waterbury Police Department, where he earned the rank of lieutenant.

He is survived by six children, two grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters, according to his obituary.

Calling hours are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Waterbury, at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial with military honors in Calvary Cemetery.
