Hartford Schoolchildren To Get Creative In Special Art/Writing ContestChi

Children in grades 4-12 have until March 9 to submit their entries and, possibly, win a nice amount of cash.

HARTFORD, CT — City schoolchildren in grades 4 to 12 are invited to break out their creative tools and participate in the annual Hartford Creative Contest.

The writing/art contest, which prohibits the use of artificial intelligence tools, is free to enter and could win someone a $750 grand prize, among other awards.

It invites Hartford youngsters to submit original works of essays, poetry, and artwork.

The theme is "A Focus on Character and Reflection," and participants were given one of three specific prompts for their entries:

• How do you deal with a friend who has different values from your own?

• What might happen if you tell a lie?

• Pick one word — curiosity, integrity, gratitude, compassion, or sadness — and explain what it means to you.

The contest is open to all children attending a Hartford school in grades 4-12.

Contest organizers will run any submissions through myriad detection programs to determine if AI was used, and if an entry is submitted via AI, the entry will be disqualified.

The deadline for original submissions is March 9, and the winners of three grade-based categories (4-6; 7-9; and 10-12) will be honored at an awards ceremony on May 16 at the Mark Twain House in Hartford.
