Historic Hartford Restaurant Currently Closed

A Hartford restaurant that's been open since 1938 is temporarily closed.

HARTFORD, CT — Carbone's Ristorante on Franklin Avenue has temporarily closed its doors, according to its website. Customers are redirected for indoor dining, takeout, and delivery at Carbone's Kitchen in Bloomfield and Carbone's Prime in Rocky Hill.

The restaurant has been serving diners gourmet Italian fare for 83 years, according to The Hartford Business Journal.

Former city councilor Marilyn Rossetti told WFSB 3-TV that Carbone's is "an institution." She said it's a place that politicians often frequented, such as former Gov. John Rowland.

Owner Vinnie Carbone said the pandemic and Hartford's economy are factors in the current closure. However, he told WFSB 3-TV that there's "a good chance" the restaurant will open again.

Many downtown businesses that relied on traffic from office workers have been hit hard since the beginning of the pandemic. In April, restaurant Stella's African Eatery announced it would close. Last month, Bin 228 Wine Bar announced it would close as well.
