HARTFORD, CONN. On Sunday, March 5 at 2:30pm, Real Art Ways will present four renowned musicians - saxophonist Daniel Carter, percussionist Michael Wimberly, pianist Jamie Saft, and bassist Joe Morris - in a monthly music series called Improvisations Now. Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for Real Art Ways members, and $5 for full time students. Real Art Ways is located at 56 Arbor Street in Hartford.

Daniel Carter is an American free jazz musician who plays the saxophone, trumpet, and the flute. Carter has recorded and performed with many distinguished musicians, including William Parker, Federico Ughi, The Negatones, Thurston Moore, Yo La Tengo, Soul-Junk, Anne Waldman, Cooper-Moore, Matthew Shipp, and scientist/musician Matthew Putman, among others. He is a member of the cooperative free jazz groups Test, and Other Dimensions in Music.

Michael Wimberly is a soul, funk, rock, jazz, and classical percussionist. He is a composer who has written for prestigious dance companies (Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and Joffrey Ballet).
As a composer and sound designer, Wimberly’s compositions have been performed by dance companies Urban Bush Women, Joffrey Ballet II, Alvin Ailey, Ailey II, Philadanco, Forces of Nature Dance Theatre, Joan Millers Dance Players, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Ballet Noir, Alpha Omega, Purelements, and The National Song and Dance Company of Mozambique.

Jamie Saft is an American keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist/composer. He has performed and recorded with an eclectic variety of artists including John Zorn, Wadada Leo Smith, Iggy Pop, Steve Swallow, Bobby Previte, and Marc Ribot. He has also written several original film scores including Murderball and God Grew Tired of Us.

Joe Morris and Real Art Ways have a longstanding creative relationship. He has organized and curated the ImprovisationsNOW series for several years.
Morris has performed and/or recorded with many of the most important contemporary artists in improvised music including, Anthony Braxton, Evan Parker, John Zorn, Ken Vandermark, Tomeka Reid, Fay Victor, Tim Berne, William Parker, Sylvie Courvoisier, Peter Evans, David S. Ware, Joe Maneri, Dewey Redman, Wadada Leo Smith, Leroy Jenkins, Lawrence D. “Butch” Morris, Marshall Allen, Barre Phillips, Barry Guy, Matthew Shipp, Gerald Cleaver, and many others.

About Improvisations Now
Improvisations Now is a monthly series of concerts programmed by Joe Morris. Joe invites a diverse group of dynamic, innovative musicians, all important members of the global improvised music scene, and performs with them. The music is completely improvised. Every concert is different.
The 2021-22 Improvisations Now series included Mary Halvorson, William Parker, Tyshawn Sorey, Joe McPhee, Rob Brown, Jerome Deupree, Fay Victor, Sam Newsome, Reggie Nicholson, Patricia Brennan, James Brandon Lewis, Tomeka Reid, Taylor Ho Bynum. Kyoko Kitamura, Stephen Haynes, Mat Maneri, and Peter Evans.
The 2022-23 season included Ken Vandermark, Matthew Shipp, Anna Webber, Angelica Sanchez, Hery Paz, Juan Pablo Carletti, Kenneth Jimenez, Matana Roberts, and Melanie Dyer.
