Press release from Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford:

May 12, 2021

Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford (LVGH) is excited to announce the hiring of Jesus Seoane as the new chef of our Food Services Training Program. The program helps to prepare LVGH students for careers in food service, and graduates have gone on to work in schools, restaurants, and hotels and conference centers. Students take a course on basic food safety in preparation for ServSafe® Food Handler certification, and gain practical skills by learning to prep, cook, and serve free meals for the local community.

Seoane will oversee students as they provide service during twice weekly Community Dinners in East Hartford. His instruction will include how to fully prep before a food service, proper knife skills, cooking techniques, and recipe development. Seoane comes to LVGH as the chef cook of LCB and Brookdale, and he is the former owner and head chef of Suso’s Restaurant, and the former executive chef of both Barca Restaurant and Morton’s Steakhouse.

“Jesus has such a diverse and impressive work history. His many years managing restaurant kitchens will prepare our students for food service jobs in all the different venues that are currently hiring. He is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and English which will allow us to serve students who have very limited English or who are brand new to the country. This program is often a first step in the right direction for our students and we are so excited to have Jesus sharing his expertise in the kitchen,” said Rebecca Hawkins, Director of Programs at Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford.
