From the Executive Director
Hello, friends!
Summer is keeping us busy, which is how we like it!
Jennifer LaRue, Director of Writing, recently announced the three finalists for our inaugural Mark Twain American Voice in Literature Award. They are: Welcome to Braggsville by T. Geronimo Johnson; The First Bad Man by Miranda July; and The Harder They Come by T. C. Boyle. The winner will be announced later this summer, and the award ceremony will be held on September 26th, so save the date!
We were thrilled to welcome friend of the Mark Twain House and country superstar Brad Paisley for a visit on June 25th. Brad wanted to see the "Daughters" exhibit, which he deemed "excellent," and we surprised him with a behind the scenes peek in collections. He is known for wearing a white Stetson when he performs, but Mark Twain's top hat definitely caught his eye. Brad has been a fan of Mark Twain for many years. He recorded "Huck Finn Blues" on Mark Twain: Words & Music, and his oldest son is named Huck.
