SOUTHINGTON, CT — It was the best possible outcome for the concerned family of a 19-year-old Southington woman with special needs who had been missing since Saturday.

Southington police Thursday evening announced Nyla Tolo, 19, who has developmental disabilities, was found safe and sound in a Hartford park that day.

According to Southington Police Lt. Keith Egan, Tolo's mother had received a tip that her daughter was seen in the area of Keney Park in Hartford.

This, he said, prompted Southington police officers to that area and Tolo was found "sleeping on a park bench unharmed," Egan said.

Also helping to locate Tolo was her mother and members of the Hartford Police Department, he said.

"Tolo was alert, orientated, and denied medical services," Egan said in a written statement issued at 5:36 p.m. Thursday evening. " Tolo remained with her mother at the park for the time being."

Egan said the successful outcome was a byproduct of good police investigation practices and media coverage of Tolo's disappearance.

As a result, the Silver Alert issued Tuesday for Tolo was canceled.

At the time of the alert, it was believed Tolo may have ended up being picked up by someone on Saturday night, though police Thursday did not have any details about why or how she ended up in Hartford.
