Road Worker Dead After Being Hit By Vehicle In Hartford: Reports

The incident happened at about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, and an arrest was announced by police, according to reports.

HARTFORD, CT — A road construction worker at a site in Hartford was struck and killed by a vehicle early Wednesday afternoon.

WFSB Channel 3, citing authorities, said the incident happened at the intersection of West Boulevard and South Whitney Street.

According to WTNH Channel 8, the incident happened at about 12:15 p.m. and the worker —Jose Diaz-Nieves, 54, of East Hartford — was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a private contractor.

The driver of the vehicle which struck Diaz-Nieves was charged, News 8 reported. Tommy Nguyen, 25, of Hartford, was charged with second-degree manslaughter and given a $1 million bond, WTNH News 8 reported.

WFSB 3 TV reported that Nguyen's car "went through the construction site at a high rate of speed."
