Selling Something? Meet At Hartford PD

Hartford police are hosting a so-called 'safe meeting spot' where folks can meet to finalize their online public transactions.

HARTFORD, CT — The Hartford Police Department's primary job is still catching the bad guys and maintaining order.

But it has also added a new role to its community offerings — serving as a meeting location to facilitate e-commerce.

The department announced Thursday that its 253 High St. site is also an official "meeting place" for "internet purchases and exchanges."

The relatively new role comes as many folks buying or selling items via online interactions often worry about becoming crime victims when such transactions occur.

But in Hartford, the department has set aside space at its location where people can show up and meet and make any necessary legal exchanges and purchases.

Police said users of this service can simply look for a sign that is provided by @Offerup, an online commerce site that can be used to buy and sell things.

The HPD said by being located at a police site, folks "know it's a safe meeting spot."

"So if you need to buy or sell items in Hartford, please use our front lot at 253 High St.," the department wrote via social media.
