Seven 'Health Care Heroes' Honored
Honorees were recognized for their outstanding achievements in Connecticut's Healthcare industry

Hartford, Conn. (December 7, 2018) – Healthcare providers and facilities play an integral role in supporting and strengthening our communities. Yesterday, seven individuals and organizations were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the field at a luncheon at the Hartford Marriott.
“Today’s honorees embody the word hero,” Chris Santilli, publisher, Hartford Business Journal, said. “We thank each of our award winners for going above and beyond to provide exemplary support to the region and commend them for their accomplishments.”

· Advancements in Healthcare-Prevention: C. Steven Wolf, Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine, St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center

· Community Service-Advocacy/Policy: Dr. M. Saud Anwar, Mayor of South Windsor
· Corporate Achievement-Innovation: George Kyriacou, Gaylord Hospital, President and CEO
· Healthcare Staff: Stephanie Alderman, Lead Respiratory Therapist, Hospital for Special Care
· Nurse: Patricia Veronneau, Hartford Hospital, Director of Acute Patient and Family Transitions
· Physician: Marwan Haddad, Community Health Center Inc., Medical Director of Center for Key Populations (MD, MPH, AAHIVS)
Attendees were treated to an inspiring keynote address by speaker, author and blind-ultra athlete Jason Romero. A successful business executive, Romero, who is visually impaired, is best known for running across America. WFSB anchor Denise D’Ascenzo served as the event’s emcee.
The 2018 Health Care Heroes Awards were presented in association with WFSB Eyewitness News (exclusive media partner). Trinity Health of New England and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care served as presenting sponsors for the event. Comcast Business, Hartford HealthCare, and Wellness Federal Credit Union served as event sponsors. Event partners included Hartford Marriott, Rider Productions, Merritt Graphics, J.
