State Capitol To Host Two Transgender Day Events Thursday

HARTFORD, CT — State officials and local activists Thursday will celebrate an important day in the LGBTQ community, as they will mark Transgender Day of Visibility.

Two events are planned in Hartford to mark the day, which is actually on Sunday, March 31.

International Transgender Day of Visibility, which takes place annually on March 31, recognizes transgender people and celebrates their contributions.

Thursday's events include a flag-raising at the Connecticut State Capitol in the morning, hosted by Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz; and a family-friendly ice cream social, hosted by Out Accountability Project and Equality Connecticut in the afternoon.

The flag-raising event will take place at 10 a.m. at the state Capitol's north lobby, 210 Capitol Ave., Hartford.

This is only the second time in Connecticut state history the Trans Pride flag will be flying over the Connecticut State Capitol.

Meanwhile, the ice cream social will take place from 3:45 to 5 p.m. in the same location, with ice cream donated by Buck's Ice Cream.
