Suspect Charged In March 12 Fatal Shooting In Hartford: Police

Hartford police arrested a 20-year-old suspect for the March homicide that killed a Windsor man.

HARTFORD, CT — Police in Hartford have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month on Albany Avenue, authorities said Wednesday.

The suspect, Xavier English, 20, of Hartford, was taken into custody on Wednesday, April 1, and transported to the Hartford Police Detention Facility, where the warrant was served.

English is charged with murder and carrying a pistol without a permit. His bond was set at $1 million.

Police identified the victim as Colin Roberts, 49, of Windsor.

Officers responded around 6:56 p.m. on March 12 to the area of 834 Albany Ave. on a report of a person shot.

Upon arrival, they found an unresponsive victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation was taken over by the Hartford Police Major Crimes Division, along with the Crime Scene Division.

Detectives later identified a suspect and established probable cause, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant on a murder charge, police said.

On April 1, members of the Hartford Police Violent Crimes Unit, working with the United States Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force, located and arrested the suspect, according to the HPD.
