Victim Identified in Fatal East Hartford Snowplow Accident

The elderly man was struck and killed by a snowplow in the parking lot of an East Hartford apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.

EAST HARTFORD, CT — Police have identified an 82-year-old man who died Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a snowplow in a Main Street parking lot.

Daniel Baerga was apparently cleaning snow off his vehicle in the parking area of the Willow Arms Apartments at 446 Main Street when he was struck by a snowplow truck which was backing up, WFSB-TV reported.

Baerga was rushed to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

NBC Connecticut reported the private plow contractor, a 47-year-old man from the Broad Brook section of East Windsor, was distraught and cooperating fully with the police investigation.

In an on-camera interview with several media outlets, Sgt. Steve Camp said, "It's very hard for the plow truck drivers to see, and be attentive to that."
