$2.6 Million Awarded To Estate Of Ledyard Man Who Died Of Brain Bleed
The estate of a Ledyard man who died of a brain bleed has been awarded $2.6 million as a result of a medical malpractice lawsuit.

LEDYARD, CT - The estate of a Ledyard man who died of a brain bleed has been awarded $2.6 million as the result of a medical malpractice lawsuit, the New London Day reported. The case was set to go to trial this summer.
Attorney Kelley E. Reardon said Gary Wheelis, 63, died at the William W. Backus Hospital of a brain bleed after being admitted for a simple procedure, according to the New London Day. Wheelis had been admitted two days before his death in December 2012 with a piece of food stuck in his throat. Reardon said Wheelis was administered a blood thinner even though he was already taking two others and suffered significant brain bleed as a result, the New London Day reported. The case had been pending in New London Superior Court since 2014 before being settled this year.
