A Donkey Farm in Our Midst

For six years Rosemarie and Bruce Garstka have been raising miniature donkeys at their Heritage Hill Farm, off Sable Drive in Ledyard. We visited this week to see 3-week-old Gideon and his mom. (The mom ended up with most of the video time.) These animals were originally bred in Sicily, Rosemarie said. Very friendly and people-oriented, they make excellent pets.

With six breeding females, the Garstka's are very excited about the 2011 foaling season.  Visitors are always welcome, but are asked to call ahead for an appointment at 860-464-6081.
