• GFI's new Ledyard plan calls for bringing in dredged material (theday.com) — Ledyard residents are weighing a new proposal to barge dredged material to the former Dow Chemical site on Route 12, mix it with cement, and reshape part of the 165-acre riverfront for future industry. After a previous large quarry plan was rejected, neighbors packed an Aug. 19 meeting to question contamination risks, noise, truck and barge traffic, and long-term groundwater monitoring before new local permits are considered.
• CT man arrested for allegedly drowning cat in bathtub (courant.com) — Ledyard police arrested a 53-year-old town resident after he allegedly told Groton officers he drowned a cat in a bathtub at a Ledyard home, where a dead cat was later found. He faces an animal-cruelty charge, was released on bond, and is due in New London Superior Court in September.
