The Ledyard High School basketball team handily defeated Waterford, the reigning Class M 2012 Champions, 64 to 46.
In a hard-fought game by both teams, Ledyard led most of the game by an average of ten points, until the last period. With Ledyard center Chris Gill dominating the low post by blocking the driving lanes and as well as shots, Waterford was forced to shoot from the perimeter, which kept them in the game until the fourth period. Ledyard then applied a full court press, resulting in a number of steals, which allowed them to pull away with the lead.
Ledyard maintained a fast pace by rotating most of it's bench in and out of the game. Mugsy Whipple had a game high 21 points, with Khary Childs having 16. Dan Martin led Waterford with 12 points. Ledyard is now 5-1, with its next game at Lyman Memorial in Lebanon on Friday night.
