Arrest Made In Shooting Of 3-Year-Old Ledyard Boy: PD

The child suffered a hand injury in the July incident.

LEDYARD, CT — A 22-year-old Gales Ferry man was arrested on a warrant Monday in connection with the shooting of a 3-year-old boy in the hand in July, according to Ledyard police.

Austin Thibeault, of Kerrie Court, was charged with second-degree assault; risk of injury to a child; first-degree reckless endangerment; and criminally negligent storage of a firearm.

Details of the July 27 shooting were not disclosed, but at the time, police referred to it as accidental.

The shooting occurred in Thibeault's home, but police also did not disclose Thibeault's relationship to the boy. The child suffered serious hand injuries and was treated at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.

Thibeault was released after posting a $35,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Dec. 1.
