Big Name In Outdoor Clothing To Close Foxwoods Store: Reports

MASHANTUCKET, CT — Outdoor specialty chain Eddie Bauer is planning to close all of its 200 North American stores. The company is preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Women's Wear Daily reported.

Eddie Bauer was found in 1920 in Seattle. The North America retail locations of the company are operated by Catalyst Brands under license from the brand owner Authentic Brands Group. The most recent move to close all stores in North America is part of moving the company to a fully online model.

In Connecticut, Eddie Bauer has locations at Westbrook Outlets and at the Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods that will close, according to The Connecticut Scoop. The South Windsor location at Evergreen Walk also closed over the weekend.

The chain previously operated stores in Danbury, Manchester, and Meriden, which have all previously closed.

Eddie Bauer's announcement comes as retailers have been leaving Westbrook Outlet mall. H&M and J Crew both closed last month.

Plans call for the outlet mall to be demolished to make way for a huge mixed-use project.

The $425 million development was first revealed in 2024. It's anticipated to include 595 apartments, 100 townhomes, a new hotel, restaurants, and entertainment space.

Nationally, several well-known retailers have already announced that they will close stores this year, including Francesca's and Sak's Off 5th.
