'Cop's Cop' Gagnon Retires After 25 Years Serving & Protecting

Officer First Class Dan Gagnon has been awarded medals for bravery and distinguished service and was officer of the year in 2016.

LEDYARD, CT — His badge number is 716. And this "cop's cop" served Ledyard and its townsfolk for 25 years. Police Officer First Class Dan Gagnon will be retired from effective Jan. 3, 2020.

We remember with still-heavy hearts when Gagnon lost his partner, K9 Ringo.

Gagnon was among the most respected of Ledyard police officers.

"Dan served the citizens of Ledyard and the State of Connecticut with honor and distinction for 25 years. He was the recipient of many awards, honors and accolades, including the Ledyard Police Department Medal for Bravery, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal on multiple occasions, and was Ledyard's Officer of the Year in 2016. He also received numerous awards from the Connecticut State Police and the Connecticut Police Work Dog Association.
He served as a K-9 handler, tactical trainer, active shooter instructor, less lethal methods instructor and as a founding member of the LPD Special Response Team.

Dan is a highly respected cop's cop and he will be missed within the walls of Ledyard PD and in our community. He was a true ambassador for LPD and law enforcement as a profession.
