Graduation Controversy In Ledyard Prompts Response From Superintendent

The Ledyard Superintendent of Schools is examining a rule concerning graduation following recent controversy.

LEDYARD, CT - A Ledyard schools policy concerning graduation is currently being reexamined by the Superintendent, according to Fox 61. The rule concerns proper attire for students during graduation ceremonies.

The controversy first sprang up when a student was given a special cord by Navy recruiters to wear during his graduation ceremony, Fox 61 reported. Ledyard school policy currently prevents students from wearing anything other than a standard graduation gown or honor cords issued by the school. The rule prompted parents to start a Change.org petition that garnered over 1000 signatures, Fox 61 reported. Due to the strong response, Ledyard Superintendent Jason Hartling met with students Monday and said he will have a solution put in place by graduation next Friday.
