Juvenile Charged in Ledyard High School Instagram Threat Case: Police

Police said they have charged a juvenile with posting a "hit list" to Instagram.

LEDYARD, CT - Police said they have charged a juvenile with posting a "hit list" to Instagram, according to media reports. Police said the case, referred to as the Ledyard High School β€œInstagram Threat” case, was solved late Saturday evening.

Police said on word had gotten around Wednesday that a student claimed he had "big plans" for the schoolThursday, Fox 61 reported. Thursday, April 20, marked the 18th anniversary of the Columbine massacre. (To sign up for Ledyard breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

School officials were notified Thursday about an Instagram account (labeled β€œlhs.shooter”) which listed eight students by name, according to Fox 61. The post named eight students, a boy and a girl from each of the four grades.

School officials said they were initially made aware of the rumor Thursday and met with the suspected student but found no posts that resembled a specific threat to students, NBC Connecticut reported. Officials later were alerted of an account created that day perpetuating the idea of a shooting, but concluded both threats were not credible.

Police said a juvenile has been charged with breach of peace and threatening, according to NBC Connecticut. Officers were stationed at Ledyard High School on Thursday and Friday as a precaution.
