Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. In Need of Donations

Any kind of food, treats, and toys for dogs or cats are needed to help local families this holiday season.

Cindy Eilenberger posted on the Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. Facebook page and said 55 pets are in need of food this holiday season and C.H.A.I.N. could use some help from the community.

Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. is a community resource that supports Ledyard Animal Control in its initiatives to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home companion animals in Ledyard and Gales Ferry.

“I have received the numbers for the families requesting pet food for their Holiday Baskets for Christmas which will be handed out on Dec. 19th by Social Services,” Eilenberger said. “There are 55 pets in need of food. The demand has been more than our supply this year and we do not have enough food to even begin to meet these numbers.”

She said that in addition to the 55 pets in need, C.H.A.I.N. still has to meet the needs of the Meals on Wheels clients for December and fulfill the wishes from the kids for the Santa Run 2014 for the Pets.

“We need most any kind of food, treats, and toys for dogs or cats. We also have a rabbit, ferret, and parrot family. So, if you can help, we have donation boxes at AA Lock & Key and Grimm’s Furry Tails in Ledyard and at the Ledyard Senior Center and Fireside Brick Oven Creations in Gales Ferry.

Items can also be dropped off at the LAC. Just let them know you want it to go towards the holiday baskets for C.H.A.I.N. . Or I will be happy to come to you to pick up. We can also accept gift cards for stores that sell pet foods to buy the items also.

We also have our Amazon Wish List that you can order from. Items usually get to us in just a couple of days. We have to deliver the items to the Ledyard Congregational Church on Dec. 19th. (Not 100 percent sure on the date as the town has not been in contact with me. So if I am wrong someone please let me know).

Thank you to all who can help. No donation is too small. Even if it is one can that will give one cat or dog a meal for Christmas. I know we can do this.”
