TOO HOT for YOU TOO HOT for PETS!

I am very thankful here in town our office has not received any calls about pets left in cars this heatwave.
If you see an animal in a parked car and are afraid for their safety first make sure you are in a safe spot, go up to the car, if the car is running and ac is on, dog or cat is laying there looking bored everything is fine. If you get to the car and it is not on, and animal appears to be in distress as in heavy panting, thick saliva, vomiting, lethargic, unsteady on its feet this is an emergency! Call 911 first and they will contact the aACO and may be able to send an officer to help get the dog out of the car, if you are with someone have them run to the nearest store the owner could be in and try to find owner.
We do not encourage you to open the door your selves but if your dog was having these symptoms you would move it to a cool spot and try to get water or gatorade in to it. Submerging in cold water tub or using a garden hose to help cool it off fast. If unsteady and vomiting make sure it gets to a vet immediately.
Do NOT confront the owner! That is OUR job! Our concern is safety of the animal and the public first; we will deal with the owner later.
