The Madison Source reports in detail how the three civilian dispatchers were caught sleeping on the job.

MADISON, CT — Three Madison civilian dispatchers have either resigned or been terminated after an investigation conducted by the Police Department revealed that they were sleeping on the job, the Madison Source reports.

Dispatcher William Coady resigned after an investigation concluded he repeatedly slept on the job and even had a pillow and or blanket on some occasions, the Madison Source reports. Investigation also revealed that Dispatchers Carl Smith and Marcie Kolasinski also were sleeping on the job too, according to the report.

Smith resigned, while the Board of Selectman recently moved to terminate Kolasinski, though she can still appeal the decision to the State Labor Board, the Madison Source reports.

Madison Police officials told the Source that the remaining dispatchers are extremely professional and have rallied to cover the ensuing staffing shortages.

Police Capt. Joseph Race told WTNH News 8 that at no time did 911 calls go unanswered. But because of the vacancies, the town is requesting $45,000 to cover overtime costs needed to fill the vacant shifts.
