MADISON, CT — A bear was reportedly spotted last week in the Kelsey Springs Drive area in Madison, according to police.
"Residents are advised to remain alert, keep pets close, and supervise children while outdoors, Madison police wrote on Facebook.
Bear sightings have increased in Connecticut in recent months, according figures from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
One was reportedly spotted in Madison in June.
"Please do not approach or feed the bear," Madison police officials said. "Secure garbage, pet food, bird feeders, and other potential food sources. Give the bear plenty of space and allow it to move away on its own."
Residents are advised to call 911 immediately if a bear might pose a threat to public safety.
