Becoming Instruments of God”: A Day of Prayer & Practice in Music
with Awet Andemicael
Saturday, April 9,2016 9:30 am to 3:30 pm Fee $50
What might it mean to become an instrument of God? During this day, explore the integration of spiritual and musical formation around the theme of cultivating ourselves as instruments of God. Participants will engage in spiritual-musical exercises that combine communal prayer and reflection with imagination, breath, vocal tone, and words. Exercises include:
- “Holy, Holy, Holy” (Introduction): Body-Spirit-Imagination and a Sonic “Glimpse” of the Heavenly Worship
- “Amazing Grace” (Incurvatus in Se): Body-Spirit-Imagination and Freedom in Christ
- “Spirit of the Living God”: Body-Spirit-Breath-Imagination, the Inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and the Elements of Creation
The day also includes an interactive presentation on the theme of “instruments of God” in Christian theology. The program is geared toward musicians and people involved in lay or ordained ministry, but is open to all. Experience in vocal music is welcome but not required. Fee includes program and lunch.
