Building strength one day at a time

One of the most gratifying things about being a yoga teacher is watching students develop the strength and confidence to try new and challenging poses. Many yoga students come to class an average of two times a week and are advancing in their practice without realizing it. By regularly practicing yoga, they are building strength, balance and flexibility needed for more complicated poses. Last week we tackled Bird of Paradise, a balancing pose and bind, and Wild Thing, a back bend. While many students initially thought they couldn't do the poses, everyone tried and some even mastered them. The look of delight on their faces was like watching a child take her first steps. It's a look of wonder and surprise. Like many things in life, it doesn't happen overnight and requires practice and commitment. But with regular practice of yoga, you may just surprise yourself.
