1. Face the fact of retirement.
You will retire. You will be responsible for the comfort and success of your own retirement. The sooner you start to prepare, the better off you will be. If it helps you, think of retirement this way:
Retirement can be a point in time when you have the financial resources to continue working as much or as little as you want with no financial downside.

2. Envision the retirement you want.
What lifestyle do you want? Do you want to travel? Do you want to relocate? The clearer your picture of retirement is, the easier it will be to build a plan to make that picture a reality. And knowing how much money you’ll need will motivate you to start building that nest egg.

3. Learn from others.
Yes, Mr. or Ms. Business Owner, you’re responsible for your own retirement but you can learn so much from the experience and expertise of others:

• Do some research

• Quiz business owner friends who have retired

• Attend a free retirement planning seminar

• Talk to a financial coach who specializes in retirement planning for business owners

The right relationship with a financial coach can make the entire retirement planning process much easier and much more fruitful.
