Candlelight Vigil To Be Held In Madison To Remember Nick Donofrio

MADISON, CT — A candlelight vigil has been scheduled in Madison for 6 p.m. on Dec. 23 to honor and remember Nick Donofrio, the 20-year-old local resident who was shot and killed in August when he mistakenly tried to enter the wrong house in South Carolina.

The Milford Mirror reports that the vigil is being organized by Donofrio's mother, Dina, who scheduled the vigil to fall on what would have been Nick's 21st birthday. The Saturday evening vigil will be held at the Madison town green.

Nick Donofrio, a graduate of a Daniel Hand High School in Madison, was a student at the University of South Carolina at the time of the shooting. He lived in Columbia, SC, nearby where the shooting took place.

Police, who deemed the shooting "justifiable," said Donofrio was mistaken for a burglar when he was shot by the homeowner, who was not charged in the incident.

Donofrio, a standout basketball player in high school, and reportedly was an active member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the University of South Carolina.
