Country School Head of School Writes Children's Book

The Country School will hold a book launch party to celebrate the new book by Head of School John Fixx

John Fixx, Head of School at The Country School, has written a new children's book, and on Friday, December 2 at 3 p.m., the school will hold a book launch party to celebrate. The event is free and open to the public.

The Curious Guide to Things That Aren’t, published by Quarto Press with illustrations by Abby Carter of Lyme, is an alphabetical collection of intangible nouns written in riddle form. The concept for The Curious Guide to Things That Aren’t was born many decades ago, when John’s father, the late author Jim Fixx, started to write riddles about nouns that cannot be touched.

Jim Fixx was the author of the bestselling The Complete Book of Running as well as several brain teaser puzzle books. John was always intrigued with the unfinished text, and over the past three years he worked to complete and edit the book, with Abby Carter, his college classmate at Wesleyan University and a prolific artist and children’s book illustrator, adding the whimsical illustrations. As he researched and wrote the new chapters, John consulted with Country School students, and some of their ideas are reflected in the published version.
