Daniel Hand Girls Swim Team Starts Season With A Win Against Foran

The Daniel Hand High School Girls Swim Team dominated their first meet of the season last Monday night with a 94-80 win against Foran High School.

The DHHS team, with a remarkable 16 returning seniors, took the first nine events of the meet.

The Relay Medley team of Leah Connoly, Deidre Haren, Annie Kennedy and Marissa Rossi got the team started on a high note by taking first place in the very first event with a time of 2:03.76.

Many of those same swimmers also won their individual events: Deidre Haren took both the 50 yard Freestyle with a time of 26.99, and the 100 yard Freestyle with a 59.48 time. Marissa Rossi led both the 200 Individual Medley with a 2:24.69 time as well as the 100 Yard Fly with a 1:06.37 time.

There were some standout scores, including a 2:06:10 in the 200 yard freestyle by sophomore Caroline Wolek, who also went on to win the 500 yard freestyle with a 5:39.44 time.

Renata Diotalevi scored an impressive 193 in the first diving event of the season

Hand girls also won with a 1:52.31 time in the 200 yard Free Relay with swimmers Annie Kennedy, Deidre Haren Grace Hesse and Caroline Wolek.

At the same meet, the Hand team lost to tough competitor Branford. The double dual meet at Foran High School starts the DHHS Girls' Swim Team season off with a record of 1-1.
