Daniel Hand Wrestlers Defeat Amity 59-15 At Home
The second ranked Daniel Hand Tigers remain undefeated in dual match competition and are now 15-0.
The Amity Spartans arrived at Polson Gym Wednesday night undermanned and ill equipped to take on one of the strongest Daniel Hand wrestling teams in many years. Amity forfeited five of fourteen weight classes to give the Tigers a 30 point advantage before the first wrestler stepped on the mat.
The match opened at the 145 weight class. Hand's Jake Savoca had several close attempts but could not pin Jack Kane. The match was then stopped at the 2:29 mark when lead reached 17-1 and Savoca was awarded a technical fall.
The 152 weight class was forfeited by Amity.

At 160 Hand's Luke Edwards pinned Andrew Esposito in the first period.
The 170 weight class was forfeited by Amity.

At 182 Carter Chatillion of Hand pinned Rob Esposito with five seconds remaining in the first period.
The 195 weight class was forfeited by Amity. The team score was now Hand 35, Amity 0.
At 220, Hand's Victor Buchetto wrestled up from his normal 195 weight class and gave away many pounds to John Gagel of Amity. Despite the size difference, Buchetto held a 4-3 advantage going in to the third period. However, Gagel came back and caught Buchetto out of position and was able to hold him for the pin to put Amity on the board at 35-6.
The 285 weight class was forfeited by Amity.
The 106 weight class was forfeited by Amity. Hand now led 47-6.
At 113 Hand's Jonah Lewis went the distance with Austin MacDonald and came away with a 16-9 win.
At 120 Will Crisco pinned Jesse Cala of Amity in the first period.
We saw the fastest fall of the night at 126 when Amity's Tyler Bishop pinned Kevin Mallon in 18 seconds. The score was now Hand 56, Amity 12.
At 132 Justin Elias of Hand defeated Dan Grober 14-6.
The last match at 138 was the closest of the night. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the third period Matt Mahoney of Hand was deadlocked 2-2 with Nick Litwin. Litwin then scored a takedown for the 4-2 lead. Mahoney was then able to escape to narrow the margin to 4-3 with about ten seconds left. Mahoney then made an attempt for a takedown but Litwin countered to protect his 4-3 lead as time ran out.
That made the final team score Hand 59, Amity 15.
On Saturday the Tigers will travel to New Jersey to participate in the Pequannock Duals. The next local action will be next Wednesday 1/25/2012 at Guilford, 6:30 p.m.
