East Wharf in Madison to Undergo Repair for Irene Damage

The work is being done by the same company that repaired the West Wharf last year.

The East Wharf will finally undergo reconstruction after being badly damaged during Tropical Storm Irene, Jack Kramer reports from the Source.

The Madison Board of Selectmen and town residents approved a $450,000 special appropriation for the project.

First Selectman Fillmore McPherson told the paper the town is hoping to recoup some of the costs through federal reimbursement funds.

The work is being done by Clinton-based Schumack Engineered Construction and is expected to take two to three months to finish.

James Lally, president of the engineering company told the paper the materials being used for the reconstruction would be more storm resistant that the original material used to build the wharf.

According to the paper, officials wanted to wait till after the beach season to begin reconstruction.
