With Federal Grant, Madison Art Cinemas May Soon Reopen: Report

The downtown Madison art film venue was forced to shut its doors in mid-March 2020 due to the pandemic. It's been missed by many since.

MADISON, CT — The curtain may again soon rise in Madison.

Madison Art Cinemas was awarded a federal grant that means the beloved theatre in downtown Madison may soon reopen, according to a news report.

Funding comes from the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program established by the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Nonprofits, and Venues Act, and amended by the American Rescue Plan Act, the government’s COVID-19 pandemic relief plan. The program includes over $16 billion in grants to closed venues like movie theaters and is administered by the Small Business Administration's Office of Disaster Assistance. Those venues that were eligible for the grants qualified for funding equal to 45 percent of their gross earned revenue.
