First Selectwoman: Madison Has 5 New Coronavirus Cases, 1 Death
First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons said that the town continues to "see community spread in our town albeit at very low levels."

MADISON, CT — As she's done for months, First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons delivered her latest coronavirus-related update and the news was both good, and not-so-good.
Currently, the town has 161 positive cases, 10 of which are considered active reflecting five new cases and one new death over the last week. Lyons said that while the state has made great strides in mitigating the spread of COVID-19, the new cases and recent death shows that, "...we continue to see community spread in our town albeit at very low levels."
"Our hearts are with those families suffering from the impact of this terrible disease," she wrote. "Although I recognize we are all eager to enjoy our summer here in Madison to its fullest, we must remember the virus is still a threat to everyone in our community. Please exercise social distancing and mask wearing in public when distancing is not possible, and wash your hands frequently. The more vigilant we are today, the sooner we can reach a full recovery."

Lyons then noted the state's "downward trends in our metrics for the virus, but national trends present a very different story."
She said, "to protect us from resurgence, (Gov. Ned Lamont) announced on Monday he would postpone the roll-out of Phase 3 of the state’s re-opening plan. Phase 3 was set to take place in mid-July, but due to the number of cases growing in other states, it will now be delayed. The Governor has also expanded the travel advisory, which requires people entering our state to quarantine for 14 days, to include 3 new additional states, bringing it to a total of 19. More details on quarantine requirements can be found on the State of Connecticut’s COVID-19 Response website. "
