First Week of Madison Center Project a Success; Here's What's Next
Next week the contractor will begin removing curbing and sidewalks.

The first week of the Madison Center Project construction was a success, Madison official said Friday. During the initial week, diseased and dead trees were removed and the pavement along Route 1 was cut along both sides of the curb line. The work completed this week will allow for more significant construction to begin on Monday, September 14.
Next week the contractor will begin removing curbing and sidewalks. The pavement that was cut this week will allow the contractor to remove the curb and 18” into the roadway, which will allow the installation of the new granite curb.
Additionally, removal of the existing sidewalks will commence. While it can be anticipated that there will be some disruption to parking and business access, the project plan reduces inconveniences as the construction will be limited to relatively small sections of the downtown at any given time. Business will remain open and the crews will coordinate with retailers to discuss any impact on the businesses entrance.

“Some residents have expressed some initial concern over the removal of the trees this week, but wait until they see the new varieties that have been selected for our downtown requirements and will be planted next spring,” said EDC Chair Ryan Duques, adding “The EDC is extremely excited to see the project kick into high-gear next week.”
Duques reminds residents to abide by Madison’s 2-hour parking limit during the week, noting that while blocking parking spaces will be kept to a minimum, there will be some reduction in available parking for patrons to our businesses so it is even more important for business owners to park in the rear parking lots that do not have time restrictions.
