Gaylord Specialty Healthcare Athletes with Disabilities Complete Madison Triathlon

Members participated in the 29th Annual Dave Parcells Madison Triathlon on Saturday, September 6th at the Madison Surf Club

Members of the Gaylord Specialty Healthcare Sports Association participated in the 29th Annual Dave Parcells Madison Triathlon on Saturday, September 6th at the Madison Surf Club. Seven Gaylord Hospital athletes with disabilities competed in this public triathlon alongside over 400 able-bodied racers! These athletes included individuals with amputation, spinal cord injuries, acquired brain injury and spina bifida, who utilized adaptive equipment to compete in the race.

Athletes are part of the Connecticut ParaTriathlon Club, which is collaborate program between the Sports Association of Gaylord Hospital and the Wheeler YMCA in Plainville, CT. This training program offers group practices, education, training from a USAT certified coach, and specialized instruction to athletes as they prepare for the race.

The race consisted of a half mile swim in Long Island Sound, 13-mile bike around through the back roads of Madison, and a 3-mile run along the shoreline.
