Gun Ban On Town Property Sought In Madison: Report

A man was seen carrying a gun at the Surf Club recently, which is what led to the request.

MADISON, CT — Some Madison residents are asking the Board of Police Commissioners to create an ordinance banning guns on town property. The issue arose after a man was seen openly carrying a gun at the Surf Club and police were called, despite the fact no laws were broken, the Madison Source reports.

One resident told the police commission that "Guns present an imminent safety threat," according to the Source. The commission said they have no power over the issue and it would have to come from the Madison Board of Selectmen.

Police Chief Jack Drumm told the residents that the selectmen could consider a ban on guns on town-owned recreation areas but again it would have to come from the selectmen.
