I've been seeing so much about the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous speech on the Mall in Washington D.C. What I didn't know about the speech was gospel singer Mahalia Jackson who had sung beforehand and was on the podium, uttered "Tell'em about the dream Martin!" and he proceeded to speak from his heart the famous words describing what he saw for ALL Americans. These words were not planned!
It must have taken enormous courage to speak to 250,000+ people off the cuff, knowing the world was watching with so much at stake. Civil Rights legislation was not yet on the table even though president Kennedy was open to it. But if he hadn't taken that scary step to speak off script, the world would not have known what was truly in his heart. I believe these words emanating from his soul were infused with a deeper intention of love, hope and healing and acted like lightening bolts to the many there that day and the millions who saw it on tv. They fueled and formed the tipping point in the nation's consciousness that the terrible wrongs done to African Americans had to be righted.
I have an interview call coming up this Friday for a job that manages massages therapists with a fine health and well being company. I have my talking points laid out and have researched the company. I must also offer my unique vision for how massage therapy can be not only a healing art but a transformational one. Like Dr. King, at some point, I must step off into the unknown and express my true Self in this and every interview and relationship in my life. Otherwise, people will not know all of me and that serves no one, especially me.
