A big thanks to the students and teachers of Island Avenue School and in particular, the Island Avenue Student Council, their advisor, Connie Piccione and Lily Paine. Lily, a 2nd grader, submitted the suggestion – through the Island Avenue School Student Council Suggestion Box – that Island Avenue sponsor a school-wide food drive to support the local Food Pantry. Lily then worked with six 4th grade Student Council members to create hallway posters (including the one shown in the photo) and share information during the morning announcements. This was part of a school-wide initiative to ‘Work hard. Be kind. Make a difference'. They collected 356 pounds of much-needed food.
