Jayme Stone's Alan Lomax Project coming to Fire In The Kitchen Concerts
Jayme Stone brings his latest project to Madison on March 12. He and the band re-imagine some of the old tunes collected by Alan Lomax.

It all happens on March 12, at 7:00 PM, at the North Madison Congregational Church's Fire In The Kitchen Concert and Workshop series. One of the most fascinating musical journeys touring today, Jayme Stone’s Alan Lomax Project is both strikingly beautiful and a whole lot of fun. Jayme, a banjo player with few equals, has selected a number of the tunes that Alan Lomax collected during his travels, and re-imagined them, using contemporary players of stunning virtuosity. The breadth of the tune selection is what sets this show apart. There are Old-time tunes, field hollers, blues shouts, spirituals, sea chanties and more. The common denominators are the infectious nature of the tunes and the style chops that the younger players bring to them. As always, Ashleys’ Ice Cream after the show.
Jayme Stone’s album of the same name as the tour, “The Alan Lomax Project” is a Juno-nominated compendium of highlights of Alan Lomax’s travels, played by a cast of all-star musicians. Jaime has taken a different path to recording, preferring instead to concentrate on projects as opposed to simply throwing songs at a wall. Past projects have included musical journeys through India and Persia, an album drawing parallels between classical and folk melodies, African/Appalachian fusion, etc. He is also an instructor at Yo Yo Ma’s Silkroad Global Musician Workshop. He also has founded his own music business traveling school, helping newbies to the business learn about booking, promotional presentation, professional business communications, etc. To steal a line from the beer commercial, Jayme is the most interesting musician in the world.
